March 22nd, 2020

As a member of the retirement community in Vernon, you are probably already aware of the mental and physical health benefits of staying active and participating in regular activities. Staying active is essential to maintaining health, both physical and mental.

One of the biggest hurdles to regular participation is awareness of resources that are out there, and programs that exist. Fortunately, Vernon has a few excellent options for seniors. Here are some of the local Vernon activity resources.

The Halina Activity Center

The Halina activity Center is a charity located in the Vernon recreational complex that is open to people 50 years of age and older. The Halina activity Center offers a wide range of activities, focusing on social, educational and recreational. Examples of programs include bingo, crafts, carpet bowling, table tennis, accordion and ukuleles and much more. Membership only costs $25 per year, and members are free to bring along friends and guests. Their website is https://www.halinacentre.com

The Schubert Center

Another Center catering to seniors in Vernon, the Schubert Center is another volunteer run organization that offers a variety of senior programming, from dancing to crafts. This is a great place for seniors to come together and socialize.

Senior living in Vernon is exciting, and taking advantage of either, or even both, of these activity resources can make it even more so. Of course, The Hamlets at Vernon offers their own programs as well, so do not forget to also participate in these to remain social, active and happy.
