Easy walking trails in Vernon

May 25th, 2018

Now that spring has finally arrived, it’s a great time of year to get outside and enjoy some of the amazing walking trails in Vernon. At The Hamlets at Vernon, we want our residents to get out of the assisted living community and enjoy everything the city has to offer. We know that going for walks is a great form of exercise and can get seniors strolling together, chatting, and relaxing.

Here are a few easy walking trails that we recommend:

Polson Park Walkway

Polson Park is only a few blocks away from The Hamlets, so it’s an easy stroll to get onto the trail. This trail is only 0.7 km on a mainly gravel pathway and it takes you through a lovely park, past numerous gardens, until you reach the south side. If you want to cut the walk short and take the westerly path to Armoury Park, you can relax there before heading home.

Okanagan College Connector Trail

This one starts a little further south, just off Highway 97 and 15 Ave, but there are multiple places you can go and you can choose exactly how far you want to walk. If you’d prefer, stay in the park and walk by the baseball diamonds and DND Soccer fields. If you want to push it further, keep walking to Mission Road and take the path until you get to the hills. It’s safe and easy, with crosswalks where you need them, and the scenery is amazing.

Grey Canal: Bella Vista

You’ll have to drive west to get here, but the walking trail near Bella Vista Road is beautiful and easy to do. It’s a 1.6 km stroll on gravel and there are a couple of options after you park on Vineyard Way. There’s a short 300 m path west or the 1.3 km trail to the east.

No matter where you go, you’re sure to enjoy these relaxing paths in Vernon. At The Hamlets at Vernon, we encourage our residents to stay active and enjoy all the recreation activities that we plan or that they plan on their own.
