Preparations for Moving Into a Senior Care Community
If you are getting ready to move into a senior care community like ours in Vernon, here are some tips to help you get ready.
Declutter
Whenever any of us move, that is a great opportunity to get rid of clutter. By clutter we mean clothes that you haven’t worn in years, books that you’ll never read again, or all the random things we think we should save but don’t need. You can sell items or give them away. Several charities will be happy to come and pick up larger items that you don’t want. Sometimes you can even get a tax receipt for a deduction when you file your taxes.
Paperwork
Always set aside important papers, and keep them separate. These are things like passports, checks, and birth certificates. It’s better to always know where the important papers are.
Remember, that when you move, you will have to change your address in lots of places. Start making a list. For example, if you do online shopping, you have to change the shipping address everywhere. You will have to go to the post office and give them your new address for mail, and banking institutions need to be alerted.
Moving
For actual moving, you can box up most of your affairs yourself. However, it is also possible to let professional movers do everything. Just pack one small bag of important items and personal papers, and movers can box up everything. Also, movers will only insure boxes that are packed by them.
Moving can be stressful, but it’s also a way to have a new start. For many individuals, a change is as good as a rest, as the old saying goes.
