In February, from the 4th to the 13th, there is a winter carnival in Vernon with lots of fun things to do. You might want to go just to see the snow sculpture symposium and competition or get something good to eat. Put it on your calendar because there will be more information available as the dates get closer.
Breweries and Cideries
Most of the local breweries and cideries are open all winter. You can go and taste their products, and it’s a fun outing. For example, there is Tony’s Craft Cidery in Coldstream, and the Marten Brewing Co. on 30th Avenue that even has a restaurant. At the Planet Bee Honey Farm and Meadery you can taste honey.
December brings the Artsolutely Artisan Sale at the Vernon Community Arts Centre. This is a fabulous annual artisan show where you can find all kinds of handmade gifts including pottery and glass art. It is open seven days a week, and it’s a way to support local businesses and artists. Plus it will be indoors and cozy warm in case the weather is bad. Don’t miss it!
Greater Vernon Museum and Archives
The GVMA is open all year round. It’s a good indoor activity, and there are so many exhibits to see. They also have several online (virtual) exhibits, an online book club, and online gift shop. Art galleries and museums are always a good choice winter and summer because they are climate-controlled.
Vernon Performing Arts Centre
The Performing Arts Centre on 33rd Street has several shows and performances throughout the winter. If you like theatre, music, and performing arts, this is the place to go.
In this age of COVID-19, it’s always a good idea to check beforehand and maybe make a phone call or two to make sure that activities are going on as scheduled. But you will have no problem finding some fun activities in Vernon over the holidays.
