At The Hamlets at Vernon, we offer numerous services and programs to help take care of a senior’s needs when they require 24-hour medical care. We want to inspire our residents and help them stay as active and fulfilled as possible, regardless of whether they require assisted living care or can take care of their own needs during the day.

One service we provide is end-of-life care. What is end-of-life care? It is supportive and compassionate care for dying people and their families. Once a person has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, end-of-life care begins.

End-of-life care focuses on numerous aspects of a person’s life as they approach their final days. Some aspects include:

Comfort – ensuring the person is living in comfort and not suffering, regardless of whether they are in a nursing home or staying with family.

Quality of Life – providing the person with a life worth living, remaining active and aware of their surroundings.

Personal Health Care Decisions – respecting the person’s final wishes, such as their living will.

Spiritual Concerns – honouring the person’s religious and spiritual beliefs and needs, providing the proper support and treatment.

Family Support – many times, end-of-life care can be harder on the family and friends than on the person. We want to make sure the family has the support of the staff through these trying times.

Psychological Concerns – as a person starts to move towards the end, there are huge psychological burdens and changes placed on both them and their family.

End-of-life care aims to preserve and respect all of these aspects and make sure that the person’s wishes and needs are respected and cared for. Some services that are provided are emotional and psychological support, pain management, rehabilitation services, and on-going support for family and friends.

The Hamlets at Vernon offers a nursing facility with supportive and empathetic end-of-life care for any residents who need it. For more information, please contact one of our experienced staff members.
